Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha (House of the People) is the lower house of the Indian Parliament whose members are directly elected. At any time, the maximum strength of the Lok Sabha can be 552, according to the Indian Constitution. Each Lok Sabha has a five year term at the end of which t is dissolved and fresh elections take place. This term may be extended by a Proclamation of Emergency for a maximum of one year periods.
All members of the Lok Sabha must be Indian citizens with a minimum age of 25, mentally sound, not bankrupt and have no criminal procedures running at the time of election. Reserved seat members must be from the scheduled castes and/or tribes. The Lok Sabha has certain special legislative powers that makes it de facto and de jure more powerful than the Rajya Sabha. However if the Lok Sabha is dissolved due to a National Emergency the Rajya Sabha becomes the only Parliament, de facto and de jure.
